He鈥檚 over the rainbow for this one.
In about a year鈥檚 time, Tony Rainbow will be gazing at the Newfoundland coastline from the deck of an expedition ship 鈥 something he calls the perfect belated 50th wedding anniversary celebration for him and his wife, Mo.
鈥淐ouldn鈥檛 believe it when we won,鈥 Rainbow said.聽
鈥淲e鈥檙e just really excited about it.鈥
Rainbow was the lucky winner of the Sea to Sky Community Services prize draw this month, a part of the non-profit organization鈥檚 fundraising gala to raise cash for services such as childcare, job placement, mental health services, women鈥檚 counselling and more.
That means he鈥檒l be setting sail in summer 2018 on a trip put together by a local Squamish company called One Ocean Expeditions.
The group specializes in providing multi-day boat trips to places such as Canada鈥檚 East Coast, the Arctic and the Antarctic.
Rainbow鈥檚 itinerary, which would normally cost thousands, will take him and his wife to Perce, Que., Gros Morne National Park and Newfoundland, among other places.
Rainbow says that he鈥檚 also looking forward to seeing the wild horses of Sable Island and getting a taste of France in the French islands of St. Pierre and Miquelon.
It鈥檒l be an extra-special trip because Rainbow and his wife have been wanting to see the East Coast since they immigrated to this country about 50 years ago.聽
鈥淚t鈥檚 been on our bucket list since we came to Canada,鈥 he said. 鈥淲e always thought about going on a trip across the country but we never did.鈥
