It鈥檚 time again to put your best paw forward to help Squamish鈥檚 animals in need.聽

Pets and their owners are participating in the annual Scotiabank & 小蓝视频 SPCA Paws for a Cause this Saturday at O鈥橲iyam Pavilion and Junction Park on Cleveland Avenue.聽

The local portion of the fundraiser helps around 300 animals in Squamish each year.聽

These animals are often neglected, abused or given up by owners who can no longer look after them.聽

鈥淲ith no help from the government, the 小蓝视频 SPCA relies on your help to save animals in desperate need,鈥 said Marika Donnelly, branch manager of the Squamish shelter.聽

鈥淏y fundraising and coming out to walk 鈥 with or without your four-legged friend 鈥 you are letting others know that animal welfare is important to you.鈥

The event includes a 2.5-kilometre walk, games with prizes, a vegetarian barbecue, a silent auction and dog agility demos.聽

A talk designed for kids, called Be A Tree, will discuss how to respect dogs and be safe around them to avoid being bitten. The children learn that dogs have feelings and, since they can鈥檛 say how they feel, they show it through body language.聽

Paws for a Cause helps around 43,000 animals in distress or in need of 小蓝视频 SPCA services each year. Last year, 34 communities across 小蓝视频 contributed around $1 million to help animals throughout the province. 聽

This year鈥檚 fundraising goal for Squamish is $10,000. All money raised in Squamish will stay in the community.聽

Registration begins at 11 a.m. and the walk is at 3 p.m.聽

Entry to the event is free but walk participants pay $15 for adults and $10 for youth and must register at spca.bc.ca/squamishwalk or in-person on the event day.聽

New this year, participants can pick up a customizable bib, which indicates who they are walking for, at the registration tent on event day. 聽

Limited edition 2016 Paws tote bags will be available for walkers who raise $150 or more.聽
