Squamish businesses are urging people to shop local and support the town鈥檚 economy, which has been hit hard by COVID-19.
Tourism Squamish, the Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Business Improvement Association are unveiling three new programs intended to keep people spending in town.
鈥淔or every $100 spent in a local business, $63 is reinvested back into the community. That鈥檚 because the owners live here, they hire your neighbours, use local suppliers and support local charities and groups,鈥 reads a news release from the organizations.
The first program, called Light Up Squamish, is a program that revolves around holiday light installations and special offers at local businesses.
People can scan QR codes at light installations and/or participating businesses (look out for the window decal) to be entered to win Squamish prizes.
Mention 鈥楲ight Up Squamish鈥 while shopping to receive a special holiday offer with purchase at participating businesses.
The second program, called 21 Days of Christmas, is a raffle for prizes.
Every time someone spends money at a participating downtown business, they are entered to聽 win thousands of dollars in prizes.
Finally, a Squamish gift card program has been created.
Under this initiative, any Squamish business can upload Squamish Gift Cards to https://supportlocalbc.com/collections/squamish. There are no
transaction fees. The entire gift card cost goes directly to the local business.
The intent, among other things, is for this program to help businesses that have been temporarily closed.
