Take out your lederhosen and mark your calendars, because the Squamish Montessori School hosts its 7th annual Oktoberfest at the Howe Sound Brew Pub on Oct. 21 starting at 7 p.m.
鈥淭he event raises money for the Montessori PAC and for things for the children that the school can鈥檛 afford,鈥 said Fiona Miller, Squamish Montessori PAC Chair. 鈥淲e use the money for things like stuff for the school鈥檚 playground, class trips and other student activities.鈥
The event will also support the school鈥檚 music and art programs, sports program, acquiring guest speakers, and other special events for both kids and parents.
The Squamish Montessori鈥檚 Oktoberfest features live music from Whistler鈥檚 Railtown Prophets, a 50/50 draw, German cuisine, beer (of course!), prizes for best dressed male and female, and some Bavarian Olympics, including a yodeling contest, beer holding contest, and more.
鈥淢y husband made this 12-foot Alpenhorn from PVC pipe [ for the Alphorn Karaoke contest], and everyone can have a go at it,鈥 said Miller. 鈥淎nd our silent auction has loads of great items, from hotel stays to fantastic work from local artists.鈥
The school also has a Squamish Oktoberfest Online Auction going on right now on Facebook.
Miller said the Squamish Montessori School originally came up with the idea to host an Oktoberfest event, as something for exclusively for parents to enjoy.
鈥淢ost school fundraisers are pretty run of the mill,鈥 she said. 鈥淏ut, we wanted to do something that was different, for the parents, and social. Besides鈥 everyone loves food and beer.鈥
