Squamish's public works department is Number 1. A national organization says so.
The Canadian Public Works Association has recognized the District of Squamish as part of the national organization鈥檚 2018 National Public Works Week Awards contest.
The District competed for the award with other Canadian municipalities with populations of 10,000 to 29,999.
The award recognizes Squamish's kid and family-friendly events during the annual National Public Works Week in May.
Each year hundreds of Grade 4 students participate in the events.
鈥淪quamish鈥檚 celebration of public works, from the equipment rodeo to the tours of the wastewater treatment plant, provided opportunities for the public to learn more about the services that public works provides and how important these services are to our community,鈥� said Ashifa Dhanani, executive director of the 小蓝视频 Chapter of the American Public Works Association.
The contest evaluators also credited Squamish for its focus on public works as a career choice through participation in career fairs at Quest University and a presentation to high school students at Howe Sound Secondary School.
The 2018 NPWW award will be presented by Dhanani during the Oct. 16,听 council meeting at muni hall.
Accepting the award for Squamish will be director of public works Bob Smith and public works coordinator Caroline Waters.
