Squamish youth earn Duke of Edinburgh鈥檚 International Awards

Two youth from Squamish were presented Duke of Edinburgh鈥檚 International Awards on Sunday, Nov. 24. Janet Austin, the lieutenant-governor of 小蓝视频, handed the silver awards to Tyler Ng and Leon Stubley.

鈥淭his was the culmination of nearly a year鈥檚 worth of skills training, service to the community and the completion of a testing adventurous journey,鈥 Stubley鈥檚 father, Jeremy, told The Chief.

Duke of Edinburgh鈥檚 International Awards are available for youth aged 14 to 24. Silver awards are given to those over 15 years old.

鈥淣ot all learning happens in the classroom. Young people need experiences outside the classroom to become committed, responsible and fulfilled citizens of the world,鈥 says the award鈥檚 website. 鈥淪ince its launch over 60 years ago, the award has inspired millions of young people to transform their lives. Through non-formal education, the award can play a critical role in a young person鈥檚 personal development鈥︹
