Not a fan of facial fuzz? Better 鈥渟have鈥� your opinion for later, because Friday night will be a celebration of local art and local beards.
Marilyn Brisson, otherwise known as the Voila Mobile Barber, has collaborated with some local artists to produce a beard-themed calendar, which is being unveiled on Friday at the The Joinery Cafe.
The calendar, a collaboration between Brisson and student photographer Wesley Lapointe, will be unveiled with a voting contest and live music on Sept. 22 from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Brisson is hoping to attract both beard growers and beard lovers to her event, where she鈥檒l be introducing the calendar models and having guests vote on their favourite photo. Local band The Wells will be continuing the party after the winner is announced.
鈥淲e鈥檙e going to ask the locals to vote for the best beard picture,鈥� said Brisson. 鈥淚鈥檒l announce the results to the end of the evening and we have giveaways from local businesses in Squamish so people have something to leave with.鈥�
鈥淭he money goes back to the graphic designer, the photographer and the musicians. They鈥檙e all doing it for free, it鈥檚 a community event to encourage local artists,鈥� said Brisson.
Brisson said the calendar project has generated a lot of debate: with friends and acquaintances on team clean-shaven and team beard duking it out.
鈥淚鈥檓 definitely having a lot of positive feedback. I didn鈥檛 know what I was getting into planning the event,鈥� she said.
As for Brisson; well, if you 鈥渕oustache鈥� her opinion as a professional, she has some advice on keeping a beard in a photogenic state.
鈥淎 beard that is well trimmed and cleaned, it can look really good. The other way, well, it can look not so good,鈥� she said.
