Annual Squamish Remembrance Day ceremony downtown again for 2022

The local legion has been a part of the Remembrance Ceremony since 1931.

The annual Squamish Remembrance Dayceremony will be held on Friday, Nov. 11, at the cenotaph in Stan Clarke Park. 

The public is invited to begin to gather at 10:45 a.m.

The District of Squamish says the road will be closed on Cleveland Avenue from Main and Cleveland to the edge of Stan Clarke at around 9:30 a.m. to accommodate the ceremony. 

The area will remain closed to vehicle traffic until after the ceremony, at approximately 12 p.m.

The Squamish Legion, formally known as Diamond Head Branch 277, boasts 160 members.

The local legion has been a part of the Remembrance Ceremony since 1931. 

The branch is headquartered at located at 40194 Glenalder Place and includes the Diamond Head Lounge, where veterans, those in law enforcement and their family and supporters often head after the ceremony.

For example: "For outdoor functions such as Remembrance Day ceremonies, inspections or parades, only the full-size medals mounted on a bar are worn on the left side of the overcoat," reads the . "Other types of insignia, such as neck decorations and breast stars, may be worn on clothing under the overcoat."
