With Squamish’s out-of-control wildfire ongoing, residents are not only concerned for their homes, belongings, and human loved ones, but also for their beloved pets and animals.
Owners may begin looking for somewhere to safely transfer their pets and animals, which is why , a non-profit organization primarily for training service dogs, is taking in pets and animals for this or any state of emergency when fur parents may not have the means to care for them.
The СÀ¶ÊÓƵ spoke to administrators Valley Calderoni and Carl Merac, who discussed the importance of training service animals to help communities, particularly first responders at this time, and in providing a tranquil sanctuary to aid the animals’ trauma and rehabilitation from distressing events.
Due to the proximity of the fire, the Sea to Sky Animal Centre in Squamish has temporarily moved its animal residents, and the local SPCA is unable to facilitate further adoptions at the centre at this time.
In a post to their social media, the Sea to Sky centre said that to report animals in distress (companion, wildlife, and farm animals), the public should call the СÀ¶ÊÓƵ SPCA Provincial Call Centre at 1-855-622-7722.
