Juveniles fall in debut

Squamish Minor Hockey plans officials' clinic

Juvenile hockey has officially returned to Squamish after the brand new Cougars team made its debut on the road against on North Delta on Saturday (Oct. 13).

Squamish lost a see-saw battle to North Delta, eventually dropping the game 5-3. Scoring for the Cougars were Isshin Chiyasu, Mitch Hayden and Graham Raschella. Squamish hosted its first home game on Monday (Oct. 15) but results were not available by press time.

In other Squamish Minor Hockey Association news, the SMHA is looking for few good men and women to don the stripes and help officiate local games.

The SMHA is particularly looking for current players to register for the Whistler Officials Clinic on Saturday (Oct. 20). Those interested must be at least 12 years of age by Dec. 31, 2012.

"We should be encouraging all of our eligible players to become involved with officiating at all levels within our organization," Stephen Fryer, SMHA Referee in Chief, wrote in an email. "Officials help to support and sustain all levels of minor hockey in Squamish both current and future. Without referees there could not be a game."

The clinic is taking place at Meadow Park Arena in Whistler on Saturday starting at 8 a.m. For more information on the clinic, visit www.ehockey.hockeycanada.ca/ehockey/ClinicDetail.aspx?cid=77727.
