Local riders excel at 小蓝视频 Cup

Rosser, Miller named to Team Canada downhill team

While much of Squamish was rocking and rolling at the Live at Squamish music festival, several local young riders were doing some rocking and rolling of a different kind at the 小蓝视频 Cup event at Mount Washington on Saturday and Sunday (Aug. 25 and 26).

Mikayla Martin and Rhys Verner were two of the biggest winners on the weekend, winning Saturday's U17 women and men's cross country races, respectively. Team Squamish member Ethan Toom was also a winner, picking up first place in the U15 men's race.

Also reaching the podium on Saturday were Tobin Hubner (third, U15 men), Harry Head (third, U17 men), Mike Charuk (third, master men 40 to 49) and Jan Toom (third, master men 50+).

Verner again dominated on Sunday, taking home first prize in the U17 Sport Men downhill race, beating out second-place finisher and teammate Luke Di Marzo. Head placed eighth in the same race. Martin again reached the podium on Sunday with a second-place finish in the Junior Women downhill race.

The race marks the end of the 小蓝视频 Cup season but two other local riders will get to continue their season at the 2012 UCI Mountain Bike and Trial World Championships in Austria on Sunday (Sept. 2).

Squamish natives Miranda Miller and Lauren Rosser were both named to the Elite Women downhill team and will be representing Canada at the event.
