Squamish resident Serena Ly lands a kick during Tae Kwon Do action on Saturday.

Squamish’s ninja has proven her mettle on the Taekwondo mat.

Serena Ly, an instructor at Squamish Ninja Training, took home a pair of medals at the 2015 СÀ¶ÊÓƵ Provincials Taekwondo Championships in Vancouver on Saturday (March 7).

Ly won a gold medal in sparring and a silver medal in poomsae at the event in the blue belt division. She won her sparring contests 15-9 and 12-9 to secure the gold.

It was only the second Taekwondo event for Ly, who has only been training in the martial art for a year and a half. She has an extensive background in Wushu, karate, acrobatics and weapon training and is in the process of obtaining a black belt in Taekwondo.

Her Squamish Ninja Training school expanded from the Squamish Martial Arts Centre to The Fitness Centre in November and is completely taking over the Valleycliffe location starting in April.

The school offers classes for adults and children in a variety of different martial arts and general fitness categories.
