Canadian freestyle champion San Medysky gets some air time in the Squamish Wind Festival鈥檚 inaugural Big Air competition on Sunday, July 27.

The reigning freestyle champ showed how he earned his title at the Squamish Spit on Sunday (July 27).

Ontario native Sam Medysky thrilled the packed crowd on the beach and managed to walk away with the men鈥檚 championship at the Big Air competition.

Medysky edged out Squamish鈥檚 Dan Druet and Austria鈥檚 Franz Schitshofer to pick up the honour. The 24-year-old is a multiple Canadian national champion, has raced all over the world and now adds the first Big Air title to his list of accomplishments.

Barbados resident Jessica Winkler took home the top female freestyler, beating out Josee Fontaine and Nadia Beaupre. Winkler has a wealth of experience in the sport, including a first place showing in the Mexican Nationals in 2013 and a third place showing at the Mexican Nationals in 2012.

The Big Air competition was the highlight event on the final day of the inaugural Squamish Wind Festival. The event is expected to return for 2015.聽
