A new KidSport Squamish community chapter will help give access to sport for those who wouldn鈥檛 otherwise be able to afford to play.聽

Squamish families in need will now be able to apply directly to the KidSport Squamish community chapter to access funding for children to enroll in sports.

鈥淐urrently one in three families cannot afford the cost of organized sport,鈥 said Ann Marie McKenzie, chair of KidSport Squamish.

The District of Squamish initiated the start-up of the KidSport Squamish community chapter through its Recreation Services division in December 2014. Since the soft launch, eight local volunteers have raised more than $15,000.

鈥淲ith the money raised to date, we can help approximately 70 kids in our community play sport, and hope to continue to increase that number in the years to come,鈥 McKenzie said.
