Squamish is already regarded as a bike riding mecca, and this summer local cyclists can literally have a chance to party on two wheels.
The first Squamish Bike Rave is set to take over the streets of Squamish on July 11 and event organizer Thor Kaze said it should be a unique party.
鈥淚've been to the Vancouver one for a couple of years now and all of my Squamish friends have never been able to make it down and join us,鈥 he said. 鈥淪o this year I'm bringing it to them and the Squamish people.鈥
Kaze has organized the popular Kite Clash event the past two years. For the bike rave, participants are set to meet at Stan Clarke Park at 9 p.m. and then hit the road with their decorated bikes, he said. It鈥檚 described as a glowtastic mobile dance party on wheels for anyone and everyone.
DJ MyKey is preparing a four-hour mix for the ride, and it will be made available to download for all riders. Cyclists can then all simultaneously listen to the music on their portable devices throughout the ride.
Riders are encouraged to deck out their bikes with glow sticks, lights and anything else shiny or blinky. The route is still to be determined but it鈥檚 expected that the group will visit several local establishments to dance the night away.
Kaze said that a few riders in the past have built trailer systems with big amplifiers and speakers, and he expects the Squamish Bike Rave to have the same fun atmosphere.
