Sones wins pair of medals, СÀ¶ÊÓƵ Cup

Squamish biathlete continues strong 2014/15 season

The medals keep pouring in for Squamish biathlete Hunter Sones.

The Grade 11 Howe Sound Secondary School student picked up two more medals at the Biathlon СÀ¶ÊÓƵ provincial championships in Vanderhoof on Feb. 28 and March 1.

Sones dominated in the 7.5 kilometre senior boys individual race on Feb. 28, winning gold with a time of 29:55. His shooting was superb, as he only missed one shot the entire race. He beat out the second place racer by over five minutes in the win.

The action continued for Sones on March 1 and he narrowly missed winning another gold in the senior boys 6 km sprint. He finished just four seconds behind winner Bobby Kreitz to earn the silver medal.

Sones’ strong showings earlier this year, combined with his results at the provincials, also helped him win the senior boys division СÀ¶ÊÓƵ Cup title for 2014/15.

Next up for Sones is the National Championships in Hinton, AB from March 10 to 15. For complete results from the provincials, visit www.biathlonbc.ca/results.
