It's time to add another banner to the wall of champions at Brennan Park Arena.
The Squamish Eagles Bantam "C" squad returned home as playoff champions in the Capilano Series of the Lions Gate League after a 4-1 win against North Vancouver on March 4.
"All year the coaches felt we could beat any team in the league so we were confident in the final game that we would get the job done," said head coach Peter Tielens. "Each of our playoff games had been building in intensity and effort and we thought that the NV team may be thinking they would have it easy."
The first game of the playoff run saw Squamish lose 7-0 on Feb. 11 to the team it would face in the finals. After the opening loss, Squamish beat North Vancouver 4-3 on Feb. 12, Sunshine Coast 7-1 on Feb. 19, Hollyburn 7-5 on Feb. 26 and Whistler 4-3 on March 4.
In the final, Squamish built a 2-0 lead after the first period after goals from Tak Gray and Nolan Raschella, but North Vancouver answered back with one in the second. Yamato Chiyasu of the Eagles scored a power play goal to restore the two-goal lead and Raschella added an empty netter to seal the win.
