The Kub Kars returned to Stawamus Elementary on Saturday (April 18).
The third annual Sea to Sky Kub Kar Rally saw youngsters from Squamish, Whistler and Bowen Island race their car creations against each other down the ramps.
For the past three weeks, Squamish scouts have been designing their cars in anticipation of the big race.Â
You start with a block of wood, four nails and four wheels, according to one of the scouts. When finished, the car has to weigh 42 grams or less, and the kids can design it and style it any way they like.
Parent volunteers are on hand during the creation process to help with sanding, painting and design ideas.
Whistler’s Keegan Voros took home first place in the Beaver Buggies division, with Squamish residents Nicolas Bowman and Emma Wildervanck placing second and third respectively. Squamish’s Devan Wilson was awarded the best design award for the division.
Squamish swept the Kub Kars division, with Zack Lorrimer snagging first place. Cole Longsadale and Erica Wandervanck finished second and third. Squamish’s Erin Huges won for best design.
Squamish also swept the Scout Trucks division, with Zach Stubley posting the top result. Leon Stubley grabbed second place and Ruben Jones placed third. Squamish’s Nick Rempel won for best design.
