Squamish鈥檚 Nicky Klimchuk-Brown proved he could hang with the men at the Luge Junior World Championships in Norway.
The Grade 10 Coast Mountain Academy student regularly competes on the youth circuit but was bumped up to the junior men (18 to 20-year-old) division for Friday鈥檚 race and placed 21st overall in a field of 42 lugers.
Klimchuk-Brown posted a first run time of 50.998 seconds (23rd overall) and 50.729 seconds (19th overall) to receive the 21st overall ranking. He reached a top speed of 125.02 km/h in his second run.
The 21st overall ranking is four spots better than he did at last year鈥檚 World Championships, when he placed 25th. He currently ranks fifth in the world in his Youth A division.
Next up for Klimchuk-Brown is the fourth Junior World Cup race in Germany on Jan. 24. He returns to Canada to race in the Canada Cup on Feb. 22.聽
