Despite nearly being cancelled because of the teachers' labour dispute, the 小蓝视频 High School Championships bike race did take place and Squamish residents made their presence felt on the podium.
The race in Surrey on Sunday (June 10) was combined with the Junk Yard Dog 小蓝视频 Cup race and it proved to be a strong day for locals.
Squamish riders dominated the podium in the Grade 8 boys' division, with Ethan Toom placing first followed by Torbin Hubner and Michael Kilby. Don Ross Secondary School's (DRSS) Makenna Bailey won the Grade 8 girls' race, while Luke Di Marzo and Rhys Verner placed first and second, respectively, in the Grade 9 boys' group. Mikayla Martin took home first place in the Grade 9 girls and Quinn Moberg won the Grade 12 boys' group.
Directly after the high school races was the Junk Yard Dog race itself and locals again proved their worth. Neal Kindree won the Elite Men's division, with Greg Day placing third and Moberg in fourth. Verner grabbed the silver in the U-17 division, with Martin winning gold in the U-17 female. Toom, Kilby and Hubner again reached the podium after finishing one, two and three in the U-15 men.
