Storm wins tourney opener

Rosser's goal lifts U14 girls into Coastal B Cup quarterfinals

Kyley Rosser scored on a free kick in the 15th minute to lead the U14 Squamish Storm girls travel soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the North Shore Riptides in an opening-round Coastal B Cup tournament game on Sunday (April 7) at Sutherland Field in North Vancouver.

Goalkeeper Madi Doyle recorded the shutout for the Storm, which finished sixth in Division 1 of the 小蓝视频 Coastal Girls Soccer League (小蓝视频CGSL) this season with a record of eight wins, nine losses and four draws. North Shore finished just ahead of the Storm in the standings. The win pushed Squamish into the tournament quarterfinals this Sunday (April 14) against the Vancouver United Wolfpack.

Meanwhile, the U13 Squamish United girls fell 1-0 to the North Shore Eagles in their opening-around Coastal B Cup tournament game. United, coached by Marco Fanzone, finished eighth in Division 2 of the 小蓝视频CGSL, posting an overall record of 7-16-3.

The U15 Squamish Fireballs also dropped a close one in their tournament opener, falling 3-2 to the Vancouver United Fury. The Fireballs, coached by Margret Christensen, finished third in Division 1 with a league record of 11-7-3.

The U16 Squamish Strikers, coached by Andy King, topped the KLM Cougars 1-0 to advance to the Coastal C Cup tourney final. The Strikers, who finished second in Division 3 with a league record of 11-4-4, play for the tournament crown against the Guildford Athletic Club Eagles of Surrey on April 21 in Vancouver.
